Just Got Paid

4/8/11

Credit Card Payment: $100

Withdrawal: $90

Paycheck Deposit: +$206.12

Consumption has become such a standard procedure that we celebrate the exact moment that we can partake in the consumption ritual, namely getting paid. Though this represents moment our hard work is rewarded, and the moment we receive just reprieve from the stress of our bills, that is not our first impulse. We just got paid, and we have "a pocket full of change." That is spending money, not money we are giving to creditors. Celebrating the precursor to spending creates a cycle where we anticipate spending our money, we deplete, and then we are only held aloft by the knowledge we will soon get paid, essentially recreating the high and hangover of drugs.
